Work With Me

A mixed media painting of potted plants with orange, yellow, and green foliage, along with a couple of oranges on a surface.

Commission a painting that tells your story

Some objects are more than just things—they’re carriers of memory, fragments of family history, or quiet reminders of what matters. Whether it’s a cherished heirloom, a vintage vessel, or a bouquet tied to a moment in time, a commissioned painting transforms the personal into something lasting and meaningful.

My commissioned works blend the spirit of your story with my signature technique—layered, painterly, stylized. I work with clients to create contemporary, custom art pieces that preserve memory through colour, texture, and form. Together, we’ll create a piece that honours what matters most to you.

Let’s turn what you hold dear into art that lives on.

Hope Floats

Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas, 18” x 24”, 2025

Hope Floats is a custom piece created for a collector who wanted to bring elements of her kitchen into the work — including the soft blue-green tones of her bread box and utensil holder. She requested citrus, white blooms, my signature Hoya plant, and a specific size to suit her space. I also included Oncidium orchids, a recurring motif in my work, to bring a sense of movement and delicacy to the composition. The final piece reflects both the personal warmth of her home and the joyful, evolving language of my still life practice.

The Commission Process

  • A commission is a painting created specifically for a particular client at their request. It is a collaborative process between the artist and client that results in a bespoke work of art.

Whenever possible, I visit a commission client in person to view the space where the commission will hang. The space informs the size, colour and subject of the commission. If an in-person visit is not possible, photos of the space will substitute. Communication is key at the onset of the commission process.

  • I am known for my contemporary, stylized botanical and still life compositions.

Most clients commissioning an artwork will reference another painting by me that they like, have a photo they want re-created, or are simply looking for something in my style. Commissions must be in keeping with my general subject matter and mediums. If you have a special request outside of my normal style of work, please submit an inquiry.

  • If you are interested in exploring a commission, please email me at christie@christiebakerart.com, including the details of your request, and I will provide a quote.

  • Almost any size can be accommodated. Custom sizes are available.

  • A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required prior to beginning work. The remaining 50% is paid upon completion of the artwork, prior to shipping or delivery. Accepted payment methods include e-transfer, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, certified cheque or money order. I do not accept personal cheques. An electronic invoice and receipt will be provided. A cancelled commission may be subject to material costs, a re-stocking fee, etc.

  • Commissions are completed in the order they are received. A commission request is placed in the queue once the 50% deposit is received. Wait-times for a completed project can vary depending on how many requests were received ahead, and the size and scope of the commission. Timing will be discussed and agreed upon prior to starting work.
