COMMISSION FAQs

What is a ‘Commission’?

A commission is a custom work of art created specifically for a particular client at their request. It is a collaborative process between the artist and client that results in a truly bespoke work of art.

What can be commissioned ?

Christie accepts commissions inspired by a client’s reference source, including a photograph or another painting. Christie is a landscape and abstract painter. She does not generally paint pets, portraits, but occasionally paints still life. If you have a special request outside her normal style of work, please submit an inquiry.

What Does a Commission Cost?

As with all of Christie’s work, prices are determined as a cost per square inch. In most cases, a commission will cost approximately $2.20 per square inch. Particularly large or unusual requests may incur additional charges.

Are Commissions framed?

Commissions are framed upon request. Christie’s in-house framing service offers three standard, floating-frame options: black, white, and natural wood. All frames are constructed of wood, generally red oak. Other wood options are available; specialty woods will incur specialty pricing. Each frame is painted or stained as requested. Custom colours can be arranged but may require an additional fee. Framing prices will be quoted in advance. Frames typically add 2-4 inches to the canvas size, both in height and width.

Is a deposit required?

A refundable deposit of 50% is required to begin work. The remaining 50% will be paid by the client upon completion of the artwork, prior to shipping or delivery. Acceptable payment methods include e-transfer, Debit, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Stripe, certified cheque or money order. Personal cheques are not accepted. An electronic invoice and receipt will be provided by Christie Baker Art. The Commission may be cancelled at any time by either Christie Baker Art or the client. If the commission is cancelled, the deposit will be refunded, minus any expenses incurred by Christie Baker Art.

How long does a Commission take?

Christie Baker works on commissions in the order they are received. A commission request is placed in the queue once the 50% deposit is received. Wait times for a completed project can vary depending on how many requests were received ahead, and the size and scope of the commissioner’s request. Oil paintings require a significant drying period before they can safely be packaged and shipped. Expect at least a 3 month turn-a-round.
